Walking is a year round activity. Bushwalkers of Western Australia Inc (BOWA) based in Perth has a complete annual programme. In Winter (May to October) longer walks of up to 20km in length are undertaken. These require a full day and most of the information about walking presented here applies to these walks. From time to time the Winter programme will include, for variety, a shorter half day walk. In Summer members maintain fitness by shorter walks around the Perth environs which are completed before midday. On almost every Sunday of the year it is possible to sample the experience of walking with our club. How do I get started?
Nestled in the outskirts of Armadale this moderately challenging walk is approximately 12Kms. We will start the walk from Churchman Brook Dam walking along the top of the wall then Soldiers Road before joining the bushland circuit. From there we travel in a clockwise direction. The start of this section is a fairly steep climb up to the base of the Churchman Brook Rockclimbing Crag. The Crag is a hidden gem which not many would have seen or even know is there. The rest of the circuit is easier going with gentle slopes and wide tracks. There are beautiful views over Perth and along Churchman's Brook. We will have morning tea and lunch along the way. For afternoon tea we can perhaps wait until we get back to Churchman Brook Dam where there are grassed picnic areas and seats to spend 15 minutes before heading back to Armadale. (Some of you may wish to stay on for a longer picnic/BBQ but please check with your driver.)
Members and Visitors who are proposing to attend this walk are reminded that in accordance with the Club’s COVID-19 vaccination policy they may only participate if they have proof that they have been double vaccinated.
