Walking is a year round activity. Bushwalkers of Western Australia Inc (BOWA) based in Perth has a complete annual programme. In Winter (May to October) longer walks of up to 20km in length are undertaken. These require a full day and most of the information about walking presented here applies to these walks. From time to time the Winter programme will include, for variety, a shorter half day walk. In Summer members maintain fitness by shorter walks around the Perth environs which are completed before midday. On almost every Sunday of the year it is possible to sample the experience of walking with our club. How do I get started?
A 19 km moderately hard circular walk following the refurbished Kattamordo Heritage Trail and various tracks in Korung National Park to Mt Gungin, returning on a mixture of bush track and orchard lined road to our starting point. Most of the route is gently undulating though there are three steep ascents on the walk, and one short but very steep descent on a gravel and marri nut strewn path, so walking poles are recommended. It is a pretty forest and widflower walk, combined with fine orchard views. There are two coffee shops at the Pickering Brook general store starting point for those seeking a pre-walk pick me up. However, remember that departure will be promptly at 9am. Members and Visitors who are proposing to attend this walk are reminded that in accordance with the Club’s COVID-19 vaccination policy they may only participate if they have proof that they have been double vaccinated.
