Description

About 16 km, some beach walking, a little sandy track work, mostly flat paved paths. This is an urban and beach walk - not much bush, not much elevation. Sports runners will be fine, hiking boots not required.

From Manning Park at Azalea Ley Homestead, we will set off West to the beach and then south to do a counter clockwise loop. From Azalea Ley House go west to CY O’Connor Beach. Head south past the derelict South Fremantle Power Station, the Cockburn Life Saving Club and the Woodman Point Holiday Park (Magazine Court). Then east to the Woodman Point Lighthouse which is still operating as a navigational aid, though it’s only a wee light house. Go east to the northern end of Lake Coogee, turning north to follow a string of paths through small swamps which become small residential parks in the housing estate on the site of the old Watsonia Foods factory. Use Hamilton Road to cross under the railway line and follow the railway line west on a paved, scrub lined path. Cross Spearwood Avenue at the intersection with Cockburn Road to return to Manning Park. There are good views and probably a strong breeze at the top of the ridge before we get back down to the homestead. There are several coffee points along the coast and toilet facilities in Manning Park and along the coast.

Members and Visitors who are proposing to attend this walk are reminded that in accordance with the Club’s COVID-19 vaccination policy they may only participate if they have proof that they have been double vaccinated.
